Ladies’ Stableford

In Thursday’s Ladies’ Stableford, Jessie Pigott secured a win in the Silver Division on countback from Marjorie Scott and Jane Jack, all three ladies finishing on 36 points. Whilst in the Bronze Division, Fiona Turner maintained her good form as she blistered round the course in 39 points with Alison Harrison taking second with a very creditable score of 37 points.

Men’s Midweek Stableford

On Thursday afternoon, Cameron Doogan shot a gross 69 – yes, gross 69 – to record 42 points and so win last week’s event whilst Jacques Keyser returned to form with a fine score of 39 points which included a Hole-In-One at the 11th!

Ashridge Men vs The Oxford Divots

Unfortunately, the weather ensured that this year’s event was cancelled.

Juniors’ May Stableford

Josh Hoey won the Juniors’ event with a superb score of 41 points with Stan Lewis taking second with 38 points.

Ashridge Goblets

Again, with the weather so poor on Saturday, there was a reduction in the number of teams going out in the Ashridge Goblets but Bill McCreadie & Sue Maynard played very well to win with 25 points with David & Sue Mercer finishing second on countback.

Men’s Jubilee Salver

In Division One, Robert Boddington won with a superb nett 68 whilst Rowan Northcott took second with a lovely nett 69. In Division Two, Alan Walmsley also played some fine golf in his nett 69 whilst Jody Sweers took the runner’s-up spot with a fine nett 70. As a result, Robert Boddington won The Jubilee Salver.

Junior Summer Golf Classes

I'm very pleased to say that my Junior Summer Golf Classes are again being held this year. There are two weeks of classes and the first week runs from Monday 14th July to Friday 18th July inclusive and the second week runs between Tuesday 26th August to Friday 29th August inclusive. Each day begins at 9am and lasts until 10:45am and is a great way for kids to get some good, old-fashioned fresh air and exercise! So, if you'd like your child/grandchild to participate, please stop by the Pro Shop, collect a form and return it with your cheque. But please hurry because spaces are limited and I've already had several reservations!

Do you need a new wedge?

If you’re looking for a new wedge or wedges, I have a terrific opportunity for you. I have this week taken delivery of six Titleist Vokey SM5 wedges which are all demo wedges which means you can take these out on the course or the practice area to see which one suits you best. And with these wedges ranging in loft between 50° and 60°, you should be able to cover most areas of short game play. Available in standard chrome, oil can or black heads, this is a great way to find the ideal wedge for your game or chosen shot. Please come in to the Pro Shop for further details or click on the image.

Lithium batteries

I don’t know about you but the regular “lead-acid” batteries don’t seem to last very long these days, so the answer is simple: a brand new lithium battery. These batteries are so good in so many ways and the benefits over a lead-acid are numerous, such as, they will recharge in about three hours, you will get about five times more life out of a lithium than a lead-acid, they’re more powerful and they’re incredibly light! And at £199.99 , they will also come with a brand new charger and a fantastic two year unlimited warranty and a five year limited warranty. So for further details, please pop into the Pro Shop.

R & A and the anchoring debate

And finally this week, if you haven’t already seen the news, I have a link to the R & A website that will allow you to see in pictures, just what they declare “anchoring” is and isn’t. How they’ll enforce it though, is anyone’s guess!

Waterproof cart bags

There's definitely a trend towards waterproof golf bags and I'm certainly selling more of these so I'm pleased to tell you that I now have in stock some really super waterproof bags. These 14 way organiser bags come in a very inoffensive black colour, are fairly lightweight and will fit onto just about every electric trolley and just as importantly, they're about £40 or £50 cheaper than other well-known brands. So if you're thinking about a new waterproof trolley bag, you know where to come.

Callaway Golf special offers

My annual Callaway Golf Demo Day last Saturday was a huge success and I'd like to thank everyone who attended and placed an order. If you are unaware, there are still a couple of great offers which you can view below:

  • Purchase an X2 Hot driver and receive a hybrid absolutely FREE of charge
  • Purchase any seven irons (can be a mixture of irons and hybrids) and receive a matching wedge absolutely FREE

But don't leave it too long as these offers will expire soon!

Click here to visit my website and learn more about the offers I have at the moment.

Would you like to hit the ball higher?

If so, a very simple tip to do this would be to tilt your spine only further behind the ball at the address position, ie. more onto your right side. By doing this, you'll create a shallower angle of attack and the ball should fly noticeably higher.

Good luck!

Enjoy the read and have a great weekend.
Why it might be time for a spot of shoe shopping

Last week we talked about power transfer, something you will find uncomfortable if your shoes don't fit correctly. Research suggests a significant number of you aren't playing in the right size shoe which can only have a negative impact on your golf. Then there's the pain...

No more faffing! Choose the right trolley bag

Last week we took a look at some fantastic new lightweight carry bags on the market. For those 36-hole days, however, a trolley bag may be a better option. Be careful though, for trolley bags are like referees - you only notice the bad ones. Thankfully, we have some super options in our shop...
